Find a doctorWith appropriate and ongoing medical care, your child with Down syndrome can lead a healthy and productive life. The Down syndrome clinics at Advocate Children’s Hospital are a resource for parents. We place an emphasis on health promotion.
Down syndrome is the most common of all genetic conditions associated with intellectual disability. It occurs in approximately one out of every 700 births, usually causing delays in physical, intellectual and language development.
The Down Syndrome Clinics at Advocate Children’s Hospital provide comprehensive multidisciplinary clinical care, advocacy and support for people with Down syndrome from birth to 18 years of age. Children over the age of 12 may receive ongoing outpatient services at the Adult Down Syndrome Clinic at either Advocate Christ Medical Center or Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

On the day of your initial visit, your physician will perform a physical and take a complete medical history for your child. Your visit may include evaluations by physical, occupational, and speech therapists as well as audiologists. We’ll discuss the results of the evaluation with you. We may refer you to pediatric subspecialties, other therapists and other appropriate services for your child. Following your visit, we’ll send a full written report to you and your pediatrician.
