Children's cancer care

Advocate Children’s Hospital pediatric oncology combines the complete support of a specialized pediatric cancer center with the compassion and support of a smaller care setting. That means you don’t need to worry about finding your way around a large hospital. Our pediatric cancer centers are located in Oak Lawn and Park Ridge outside Chicago.

At our pediatric cancer center, we use the latest research to develop and recommend treatments for complete children's cancer care. Our pediatric oncology team helps your whole family cope with cancer, from the time your pediatrician recommends a consultation through diagnosis and treatment.

Our pediatric oncology team includes our partners at Pediatrics at NorthShore University HealthSystem and the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital. Through this Chicagoland Children’s Health Alliance, your child has access to even more cancer specialists and pediatric oncology programs.

Pediatric cancer has become increasingly treatable, and our pediatric cancer center supports your child while they transition from care back to a normal life. Contact your pediatrician if you’re concerned about possible signs of cancer but your child does not have a diagnosis.

Pediatric cancers we treat

Our pediatric oncology team provides your family with complete support in a convenient and intimate setting. You can rest easy knowing that our team of pediatric oncologists and hematologists are trained at well-respected medical schools and are experts in children’s cancer care, especially common pediatric cancers such as leukemia, brain tumors and lymphomas. They’re board certified and have gone through advanced training and demonstrated their pediatric oncology expertise through extensive testing.

Our pediatric cancer center is equipped to treat all types of childhood cancers, including:

Services we provide at our pediatric cancer center

At Advocate Children’s pediatric cancer centers, your family benefits from:

  • Expert team & pediatric oncologists: Our doctors are board certified, meaning they’ve demonstrated their skills and knowledge to treat children with every form of cancer. They’re joined by experienced pediatric oncology nurses, therapists and team members who assist with diet and nutrition. Social workers, psychologists, Child Life specialists and school coordinators attend to additional needs during your child’s cancer treatment. Meet our cancer team.
  • Coordinated support: A social worker coordinates each visit. Our on-call nurses are available 24/7 to answer any questions that arise. And if you’re more comfortable speaking Spanish, bilingual members of our team can help. Learn about our support programs for your child and family.
  • High-quality children’s cancer care: We use the best-known tests and cancer treatments to effectively care for your child, with the latest technology for pediatric oncology. Many treatments are provided directly at our pediatric cancer centers, while others, such as proton therapy, are available nearby.
  • Research and clinical trials: In addition to local partnerships, we’re part of the Children’s Oncology Group, an international cancer research organization of more than 200 centers. We can provide access to emerging pediatric cancer treatments, alternatives to standard therapies and additional choices for care.
  • Survivorship: Our unique P.O.S.T. program helps children celebrate their cure and transition to life after cancer. We provide whatever help your child needs and safeguard their health into adulthood.
  • Convenient locations: Our cancer centers are easily reachable from homes across Chicagoland. If families decide to travel from farther away to see us, there is a Ronald McDonald House® near our Oak Lawn center.

Multidisciplinary approach to pediatric cancer

Pediatric hematologists and oncologists across the world are working together to improve pediatric cancer care and boost cure rates.

At Advocate Children’s Hospital’s pediatric cancer program, our doctors stay up to date on new research and communicate with colleagues around the world.

You can get the care your child needs at our pediatric cancer centers, or at nearby locations. However, if your child needs something more, we can connect your family with other pediatric oncology experts and help arrange care. We partner with other area pediatric cancer centers through the Chicagoland Children’s Health Alliance.
