Juvenile diabetes services & treatments

Our team at Advocate Children’s Hospital provides your child access to a full array of treatments and devices to treat Type 1 and Type 2 juvenile diabetes.

• Diagnostic testing: We provide the most accurate tests to determine whether a patient is at risk for or has juvenile diabetes.
• Insulin and other medications: We provide expertise on the latest treatment options for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and tailor treatment to each child and teen.
• Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system: We're able to offer a device that's placed under the skin that provides real-time blood sugar measurements every 5 minutes 24 hours per day. This provides physicians and families with more accurate data to determine appropriate diabetes therapy regimens.
• Insulin pump: We provide extensive education about insulin pumps, which deliver insulin under the skin without the need for insulin injections.

Diabetes education resources

• Intensive outpatient education program: Patients learn about maintaining optimal blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Depending on the site of care, diabetes education is offered as group education sessions or individualized nurse education sessions. Parents, family members, teachers and caregivers are encouraged to attend these sessions to learn about diabetes management so they can provide the very best support to young patients with diabetes. 
• Providing guidance on managing diabetes at school: We’re committed to helping young people with diabetes stay safe and healthy at school. We work with families and school systems to develop a diabetes management plan for each child or teen.

Forms to log glucose, insulin & carbs

To help manage your child’s care, you can download and print these forms to log daily glucose and carb numbers and note insulin doses. These forms will need to be sent in and reviewed by your diabetes care team.
