School support program during brain tumor care
We offer many of the resources your child needs to thrive educationally during and after care for a brain tumor.
Treatment can impact kids’ ability to think, process information and interact with peers. We’ll work with you to spot difficulties and address them effectively and compassionately. Our team includes hospital school coordinators, pediatric neuropsychologists and Child Life specialists.
What we do
Create personalized plans: We regularly discuss your child’s progress at home and school. We offer evaluations to assess behavioral, emotional and social functioning as well as various thinking skills like memory, attention and language. Our neuropsychologist can recommend appropriate accommodations that include social and emotional support.
Inform parents about options: We’ll share with you the full range of educational services aligned with the Illinois State Board of Education so your child can get all the assistance they need.
Focus on the positive: We offer an encouraging environment for kids by focusing on their strengths and goals while addressing their challenges.
Ease kids’ return to school: We’ll work with your child’s school to ensure necessary accommodations are in place for their safety and well-being. Our specialists also visit classrooms when children are transitioning back to school and conduct a presentation to their peers about their illness. It can clear up any misconceptions and questions your child’s classmates may have.
