Hospital School Program

Our Hospital School Program at Advocate Children's Hospital provides important educational support to our school-aged patients and families.

Making sure your child keeps learning

Your child’s hospitalization and care can interrupt many aspects of daily life that they’re used to. When their hospital stay happens while school is in session, it can be an especially challenging time.

That’s why we’ve assembled a team and program designed to maintain the educational requirements and activities of your child during their care and treatment.

We’re here to help ensure your child stays in step with the classroom all the time they’re staying with us.

Education collaboration

Our Hospital School Program coordinators work closely with you and your child, plus your medical team and school staff to identify educational strategies, structures and support that aligns with your child’s medical needs and treatment.

We’re dedicated to minimizing the impact of any health issue on your child’s educational performance and school participation.

Program services

We offer a full range of educational services aligned with the Illinois State Board of Education mandates.

Services available to patients who are hospitalized more than five consecutive days or for those who present with chronic illness include:

  • Educational recommendations
  • Temporary or permanent accommodations
  • Requests for IEP and 504 evaluations
  • Tutoring services coinciding with hospital or homebound care
